Barbara Eden sparked concern among fans after abruptly dropping out of a Los Angeles film festival due to what was described as a “sudden illness,” but the 95-year-old actress later shared a reassuring update on social media.

The “I Dream of Jeannie” star was set to be honored during the Cinecon Classic Film Festival at the Landmark Nuart Theatre on Saturday but pulled out shortly before the event was scheduled to begin.

“We’re sorry to share that, due to a sudden illness, Barbara Eden will no longer be able to appear in person at Cinecon tonight,” festival organizers announced in a Facebook post on Saturday.

“It’s okay everyone! I’m okay!” she wrote alongside a photo in which she was seen standing in front of a painting and smiling. “Oh, my goodness there has been a bit of miscommunication,” Eden continued. “I’m not suffering from an illness; my doctor very recently prescribed a brand-new medication that turned out to have some nasty side effects. Due to the discomfort, my doctor ordered me to remain at home until it can be sorted out.”

“What awful timing for this to happen! My deepest appreciation to everyone for the concern,” she added. “This is just a speedbump! I expect to be out and about as soon as I’m given the go-ahead!” “Again, my love and thanks to everyone for all the concern,” she concluded.

Cinecon is a classic film festival in Los Angeles that celebrates vintage movies, rare screenings and stars from Hollywood’s Golden Age. This year’s Cinecon marked the festival’s 62nd edition.

Eden was scheduled to receive the Cinecon Legacy Award alongside a screening of her 1961 film “All Hands on Deck.” She had been expected to introduce the movie with her co-star Pat Boone, who later accepted the Cinecon Legacy Award on her behalf.

Eden is best known for starring as Jeannie opposite Larry Hagman in the classic NBC sitcom “I Dream of Jeannie,” which ran from 1965 to 1970 and made her one of television’s most recognizable stars. The actress’s career has spanned more than seven decades across film, TV and theater.

Her film credits include “Flaming Star” opposite Elvis Presley, “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea” and “Harper Valley P.T.A.” and she has also starred in the hit TV shows “Dallas” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.”

Eden earned two Golden Globe nominations for her performance in “I Dream of Jeannie” and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1988. She was honored with the Legend Award for Lifetime Achievement at the National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards in 2023.

Her last film role was in 2019’s “My Adventures with Santa,” in which she played Mrs. Claus. The movie’s cast also included Denise Richards, Patrick Muldoon and Jamie Luner.
