Operations at Munich Airport have been suspended after smoke was detected.
“The (control) tower at Munich Airport was evacuated at 8.33pm due to the smell of smoke. German Air Traffic Control has suspended flight operations until further notice. More information will follow,” the airport stated on its website.
Police told the DPA news agency that the situation remains unclear and that the fire brigade was assessing the situation.
A spokesman said it was not a fire, and no flames were visible.
“We don’t know exactly yet.”
He said he could not provide further details.
According to the police spokesman, flight operations had been “partially” suspended.
The online flight schedule late on Sunday did not indicate that operations had been completely suspended.
There were some delays in arrivals and departures, with some flights reportedly being diverted.
However, according to the flight schedule, check-ins were still taking place.
Munich Airport ranks eighth among Europe’s largest airports in terms of flight movements, as stated in Munich Airport’s 2025 Annual Statistical Report.
