At least one person is dead and others were injured in an active shooting situation while the suspect has barricaded himself inside a building in downtown Midland, Texas, Midland Mayor Lori Blong said in a Friday press conference.
Midland Mayor Lori Blong said there were 11 victims in total, and that police have established a perimeter and are asking residents to avoid the area. It was not clear exactly where the gunfire took place.
Blong said during a press conference that there were no confirmed details about the shooter, who is “contained.”
The FBI is aware of the shooting and has agents from its Midland satellite office on scene, a bureau source told Fox News Digital.
The situation began in southeast Midland and progressed across south Midland, Blong said, before police were first dispatched at 8:03 a.m. local time.
Midland Memorial Hospital said it had received nine victims from the shooting, with four are in the operating room and five considered stable. The hospital’s main campus went on lockdown for nearly two hours due to the shooting, and the emergency department continues to be locked down.
