Thousands of Perth petrolheads swapped a quiet Sunday afternoon for the roaring scream of V8 engines and burning rubber at Motormall Raceway for the inaugural Supercar Sunday.
The precinct was buzzing from edge to edge as a massive crowd of nearly 8,000 fans, families, and motorsport die-hards poured through the gates.
Between the packed food trucks, children lining up for a turn on the bouncy castles and the heart-stopping acrobatics of Hardwired Freestyle Motocross flipping high above the tarmac, the venue felt like a high-octane carnival.
More than $40 million worth of exotic machinery tore through 300 tyres and a staggering 10,000 litres of fuel as over 100 supercars and drift cars took over the track, giving over 1,000 passengers the hot-lap experience of a lifetime.
And for a few lucky Telethon kids, it wasn’t just about watching the action from behind the fence.
Even Perth’s favourite icon, Fat Cat, managed to slide into a seat for a spin.
Nine-year-old 2025 Little Telethon Star Xavier Summers, who lives with cerebral palsy, could barely contain his excitement after stepping out of the pit lane into the bustling crowd.
“We all got to go in the Supercars and the drivers went really fast,” Xavier said.
“I’ve never been in one before, it was so cool — he even let me start it.”
For 14-year-old Noah Johnson – who went through a gruelling cancer treatment for sarcoma in 2024 and is now in remission – holding on tight was half the battle as the G-force kicked in down the straight.
“It was so hard to keep your posture because of how fast we went,” Noah said.
“I got to go in the white Lamborghini and it had a blue interior. I hope I get to do this again one day.”
Ten-year-old Wilson Trichet was blown away by the sound of the cars, even with his progressive bilateral sensorineural hearing loss, after clocking speeds that felt “unreal”.
“This was the best day of school holidays,” Wilson said.
“We went close to 200km, it was so fast like a superhero flying.”
Beyond the roaring engines and buzzing festival energy, the event carried a much bigger mission, supporting WA kids who need it most.
Motormall Operations Manager Brad “Frosty” Frost said the first of its kind event was a huge success in the teams eyes.
“Today is our inaugural Supercar Sunday,” Mr Frost said.
“I think everyone’s having an epic time. I’m having a good time, the kids are having a good time, everyone’s having a good time.”
Mr Frost even suited up to give a few lucky youngsters a thrill they will never forget.
“I’m one of those lucky people who got an opportunity to drive one of the young kids around, and the smile on their face I’ll never forget. It was an amazing moment for me too,” he said.
“It’s like being strapped to a rocket ship, it’s a phenomenal experience. The sounds, the feelings, just the sheer acceleration.”
By the end of the action-packed day, the inaugural event managed to raise over $50,000 for Telethon — setting a massive standard for future runs.
“When we created this event, we wanted it to be a community engagement event — we wanted everyone here, family, friends, as well as clients,” Mr Frost said.
“But the important thing for us was to give back to the community in a special way, which is why we got Telethon involved.
“So far we’ve raised $50,000 for Telethon, and we’re really stoked for that considering it’s our first event — so watch this space.”
